I ThrIved Through My 12-Hour Walk

The most significant understanding I came to from my day-long walk was: I can do hard things!

I completed a 12-hour walk last week during a solo mini-sabbatical in Toronto. The 12-hour walk movement was started by Colin O’Brady. The purpose of my walk was about discernment: what my best next steps in life should be, so I planned my walk to be filled with beauty and connection. In the end, I received many more insights than I expected. It was a beautiful trek.

About My Solo Leisure Trip to Toronto

This trip blossomed into reality from an idea planted by my son.

Every day, when I looked at my board, I took concrete steps: book hotels, flights, and tours in Toronto. All week, I walked everywhere, all day. This trip allowed me to disconnect from everything and tune in to myself. It was exactly what I needed. I’m feeling refreshed, inspired, and excited about what’s coming next in my life.

Change Management Horror Stories: No, You Don’t Need A Communication

A change manager can drop special plot twists that transform the flicks!

Change management is hard. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. And, if they're not lying, they're naïve. In my years of experience in change management, I've heard plenty of horror stories. One of the most common is when people think the change management professional can wave a magic wand, send a communication and make change happen. They believe all you need to do is email, make a phone call, have a leader issue an edict or post in a chat room and people will fall into line. This is not the case. Change management is a complex process that requires careful planning and execution. You will fail if we do not prepare for the challenges of getting humans to change.

Consider Giving aN Overhead Donation

It takes money to keep the lights on in spaces that serve humanity.

Most donors want their money to go directly and wholly to programming. The whole truth, however, is there are costs beyond paying teachers, buying materials, procuring, and servicing instruments, replenishing media and getting students to the center. Often, donated dollars to produce the educational experiences cannot stretch to cover the organization’s administrative costs. Donations restricted to programming cannot be used to pay for electricity, heat, cooling, furniture, security, etc. Give more.

About Fork Union Military School

We tried something different when we realized that regular high school wasn’t working for our son with ADD. So we enrolled him in a military boarding school several states away, which has been an excellent fit for him.
