In 2003, I witnessed a mother yelling profanities at her children in Kroger. Despite feeling sorry for the kids, I chose not to intervene and instead offered thoughts and prayers, contemplating whether it would be worse for them to be abused by their parent or the foster system, ultimately unsure of their fate.
